I Got Hacked and Lost 10K Followers. Here’s the Rebuild.
15 Years of Instagram, Gone Overnight
How social strategist Kristina Hall rebuilt from zero, hit 36,000 views in 30 days, and turned it into a Q4 playbook for every business owner.

Picture waking up on a normal Tuesday, reaching for your phone, and finding that 15 years of your life is just gone. The account you built, the followers you earned, the content you made, all of it, wiped.
That’s what happened to Kristina Hall. Over 10,000 followers, a decade and a half of work, hacked and erased overnight. For most people that’s the moment you spiral, or quietly decide you’re done.
Kristina isn’t most people. She’s been doing social media strategy professionally for 16 years, and instead of grieving the old account, she made a decision that tells you everything about how she thinks. She was going to start over like she’d never posted a single day in her life.
This week on the NoBS Wealth® podcast I brought Kristina Hall of Hall Social Media back on the show, because the way she rebuilt is a masterclass, and the timing is perfect. We’re heading into Q4, the quarter most business owners waste, and she pulled a complete playbook out of the wreckage. If you’ve stalled out, lost your momentum, or just stopped posting, this one is your restart.
Treat Yourself Like a Brand New Client
The first move was mental, not tactical. Kristina didn’t try to recreate what she’d lost or lean on her old reputation. She looked at a fresh account with zero followers and treated it exactly like she’d treat a client walking in the door for the first time.
That reframe is the whole thing. It stripped away the ego, the “but I used to have 10,000 followers” story, and forced her back to fundamentals. No shortcuts, no assuming the old rules still applied, just the work. Thirty days later that account had 36,000 views, built from nothing.
Most business owners never get that clean slate, and they let their own history hold them hostage. What worked three years ago is not what works now, and clinging to it is why so many accounts quietly flatline.
Short Form Video Is the Only Thing Moving a Cold Account
When you’re starting from zero, the algorithm doesn’t know you, and your followers can’t help you because you don’t have any. So the only lever that matters is reach, getting in front of people who’ve never heard of you, and right now video is what does that.
Kristina found her sweet spot at around seven seconds. Not because short is trendy, but because of watch time. A seven-second clip is one people actually finish, and often watch twice, and that completion signal is what tells the platform to push it out wider. She also made a call most people resist: skip stories and carousels when you’re fresh. They’re tools for an audience you already have, not for building one from scratch.
The lesson underneath it, know what job each format actually does, and stop wasting energy on the ones that don’t move a cold account.
Your Content Isn’t the First Problem. Your Funnel Is.
Here’s where a social conversation turned into a money conversation, which is why I had to have it on this show. You can go viral and still make nothing if what happens after the view is broken.
Kristina and I got into why your high-ticket offer should never be the front door of your funnel. Nobody meets you for the first time and hands you thousands of dollars. You need low-hanging fruit, an easy, low-friction first step that gets someone in the door and starts the relationship. This is exactly why I rebuilt my own backend around a free reality check instead of leading with a paid session. Lower the barrier, earn the trust, then go from there.
“Whatever you do in Q4 is going to fuel your Q1.” — Kristina Hall
Is Your Funnel the Thing That’s Actually Broken?
You can fix your content all day, but if the path from “new follower” to “paying client” is a mess, none of it converts.
The Owner Reality Check is 10 questions, two minutes, no email. It’s the same low-friction front door Kristina and I talked about, and it’ll show you fast where your own backend is leaking.

You Actually Have to Engage. There’s No Hack for That.
The part nobody wants to hear: none of this works if you treat it like a broadcast. Kristina was blunt that real engagement, actual conversations with actual people, is what builds a community that buys.
That means the automated stuff has to go. Auto-comments, AI-generated replies, the slop that’s flooding every feed right now, the algorithm sees through it and so do real people. Community is built in the replies, the DMs, the genuine back-and-forth. It’s slower, it’s less scalable, and it’s the entire point.
The Q4 Playbook: Do This Now
Kristina’s closing challenge is the reframe most business owners need heading into the holidays. Stop treating Q4 as a throwaway while you daydream about Q1. Whatever you build now is what fuels next year. Here’s the move, no budget and no tools required.
- Go build community today. Reach back out to the people you already know, past clients, quiet followers, old contacts, and start real conversations. Not pitches. Conversations.
- Post short form video consistently. Aim for watch time, not production value. Short clips people finish beat polished ones they scroll past.
- Fix your front door. Make sure the first step someone takes with you is easy and low-friction, not your biggest ask.
- Then watch the next 30, 60, 90 days. This compounds. What you plant in Q4 shows up in Q1.
The Truth: You’re Never Actually Starting From Zero
Kristina lost 15 years and rebuilt to 36,000 views in a month, because the followers were gone but the knowledge wasn’t. You have more of that than you think. The account, the algorithm, the tools, all of it can change overnight. What you know and who you’re willing to actually talk to is the part nobody can wipe.
So do the one thing you can do today, for free: go start a real conversation with someone you already know. That’s the whole restart.
Your turn: If your social got wiped tomorrow, would you know how to rebuild it, or would you spiral? Drop an honest answer in the comments, and go follow Kristina at @itsjust_krissy to watch the rebuild in real time.
